Both WordPress and plugin updates give a curl 6 error. This is happening on a local server in Virtual Box. I know there are many network problems and other possibilities here. But the onset of this was sudden and involves 5 different sites in the same way.
I’m here because I don’t think this is my server.
All my error messages in WordPress are directed at the url downloads.wordpress.org.
In my operating system (with the server off), when I us the command curl https://downloads.wordpress.org, it yields a 404 redirect. The same is true if I just navigate to this url with a browser. And I get “unknown host” if I ping this url. I get the same results if I use a different operating system and a different machine.
Is this 404 normal and expected? If that is true, then I’d go back to troubleshooting the server and network. And that would be fine.
In the meantime, I’ve dropped all firewalls to no avail.
Any ideas? I’d very much appreciate any suggestion.
